In 2010 Access Communications Ltd was established as the Second National Operator (SNO) in Malawi. Access Communications has a country wide network based on CDMA and LTE technologies.

YooMee Cameroon is a leading internet service provider in Cameroon. Their WiMAX 4G network covers the major cities of Cameroon and it serves more than 30,000 customers.

New Products Were Needed

Prior to, the YooMee product catalogue for residential customers had only volume based products. The marketing team had identified that non-stop products with a daily quota were needed. However, their existing billing system did not have the signaling capabilities to enable such products in their WiMAX network.

Replacement of the Billing System was selected to replace the existing billing system and the replacement process was carefully scheduled.

The replacement process included:
  • Migration of existing customer data and products
  • Verification of network services with new system
  • Implementation of new products
  • Cut-over from old system to new system succesfully replaced all functions of the existing billling system. After initial deployment, replaced the existing billing system, with no loss of functionality.

After the Upgrade

Following the upgrade and the launch of the new products, YooMee experienced a steady month-by-month growth in both customer base and ARPU. After just 3 months, revenues were up by 20% and the customer base had increased by 10%.

Building a New LTE Business

The time from start of expenditures to start of revenues plays a crucial role in any business plan. However, in the mobile world, network operators generally accept that it takes 6 - 18 months to get the billing system operational.

YooMee Côte d'Ivoire had chosen to deploy a TD-LTE network from Alcatel-Lucent and they understood that the billing implementation time was a decisive factor for their project.

fast billing deployment for LTE was deployed over a 3 month period. Initially signaling and integration test with ALU EPC were carried out. In parallel the customer portals, product catalogue and payment interfaces were prepared for launch.

Commercial Launch After 92 Days

With YooMee were able to activate and sell their full catalogue of LTE broadband products just 92 days after billing contract signature.

YooMee could quickly capitalize on being the first LTE broadband provider in Côte d'Ivoire.
